AnnualDeafCommunityDay2024

September is Deaf Awareness Month!

In September 2018, Independent Living Center of Kern County, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department, ASL interpreting services, hosted the first Annual Deaf Community Day in Bakersfield, CA. Since its inception in 2018, our event has grown rapidly into one of the year’s most anticipated and significant gatherings. What began as a small initiative has evolved into a major highlight on the annual calendar.

The purpose of this event is to promote and celebrate our diverse community. To highlight and support local Deaf owned businesses, share information and resources on services available and to network within the Kern County Deaf Community. This event, vendors and entertainment are always presented in ASL, with interpreters provided.

Deaf Community Day is absolutely FREE to attend, every year. While admission is on us, we always have a variety of food and beverages for purchase. Plus, you can explore a range of exciting, Deaf-made merchandise from local Deaf vendors. You won’t want to miss out on this memorable day and we hope to see you every September!
