The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) Department at Independent Living Center of Kern County (ILCKC) provides qualified and professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services that facilitate communication between the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and local businesses/organizations.

All public and private businesses or entities are obligated to provide an ASL interpreter in compliance under the ADA Title II and Title III when requested by a Deaf client, customer, or patient.

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Department and it’s ASL interpreters uphold and adhere to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.

According to the Office of Deaf Access, California has approximately 3 million Deaf individuals. This large number represents people who purchase products and services, work in local businesses, and participate in the community

ILCKC is equipped to provide quality ASL interpreting services for a variety of situations including but not limited to medical, educational, and community settings.

Instances that may require American Sign Language interpreting include:
